Our Mission

The Castine Wood Bank is a group of local volunteers who both purchase and receive donations of hardwood logs that we cut, split and stack for the provision of supplemental firewood for families who heat their homes with wood and face heating insecurity due to financial need. We have provided roughly eight to twelve cords per season of firewood to neighbors in Castine and surrounding communities from Bucksport to Sedgwick.

Pick-ups of wood

By appointment only, firewood can be picked up free of charge at our work site behind the Castine transfer station on Saturday mornings. Each appointment is for a load no greater than a standard pickup bed filled level to the edge.

To make an appointment, telephone:

Firewood must not be picked up without appointment.
Please understand that this supply of firewood is supplemental; we cannot be sole provider for a household.
We have very limited transportation resources, and ask that recipients provide for transport through the help of family or friends.

Volunteers

We welcome volunteers. Most production takes place at the Castine transfer station Saturday mornings, 8:00 - 10:00 AM. Protective gear is a must. Call Pedrick Sweet at (207) 326-4924 if you wish to join a great group of volunteers for work that is worthwhile and satisfying.
